I can't buy a home in Rockledge, Florida....

I heard that statement from a buyer client over the past week or so. OK, I will admit the buyer was from out of town and had never been to Rockledge, Florida before. That client had heard what I heard...12 years ago.

When I relocated here in 1996 to take a position as practice manager for Pediatrics in Brevard I was told by numerous in Viera, Rockledge is old.

OK, I am not one to be too critical of old...especially since I reached 50! Anyway, I listened and moved to Viera. Viera is nice. Viera has a lot to offer. And, who does not want to be in the newest area?

About two years later I realized that everything we did was in Rockledge. And, on top of that, Rockledge was a very nice, "homey", small southern town....located in the midst of all the new developments.

I ended up moving to Rockledge. My son was active in the Boy Scouts - meeting in Rockledge. My son played Little Baseball - in Rockledge. My son attended Rockledge Christian School - in Rockledge. Nothing like a Friday night football game at McClarty Stadium - home of the Rockledge High School Raiders! (Rockledge High beat...sounds rough....Viera last night 57-0.)

Rockledge, Florida has a lot to offer its residents. Sure, I have the City Manager's telephone number on my speed dial. Sure, the City Hall is small - but the staff is extremely helpful. Rockledge is centrally located. No long commutes for me. If I want to go to Viera and shop (Viera does have a lot of shopping and restaurants), it is only a 10 minute drive.

Sure, my house is in an older neighborhood - "established neighborhood" is the correct description. It is older but my yard is larger. No zero lot lines for me.

Sure, Viera is nice. Suntree is nice. But, don't discount the city of Rockledge just because it is the oldest city in Brevard County Florida!

If you are considering a move to central Brevard County along Florida's Spacecoast, consider Rockledge.
