It always seems the easy response to reduced revenue is to raise the tax rate. In a surprise move the city council voted to leave the rate unchanged.
The tax rate is $5.35 for every $1,000 in assessed value. The proposed rate had been $5.70 per $1,000 in assessed value.
The difference in cost to each taxpayer may not be significant but in a slowed economy every dollar is important to most of us. As a Rockledge resident myself, I appreciate this step.
And for the two council members (and Mayor) who voted to raise the rate, taxpayers remember. And for those who voted against a raise, kudos!
