Vanity – The Achilles Heel of Selling Your House

Achilles, in Greek mythology, was invincible, he thought. Until this little thing called an arrow shot him through the heel! And he realized his faulty belief in himself.

Excessive pride in one's appearance,  accomplishments or personal effects can be detrimental.

In real estate sales I see situations where it is obvious vanity has gotten in the way of pricing a house or condo to sell.

We want to believe our house is so much more special than the house down the street.

If you are not going to price competitively then you may as well spend your Sunday afternoon at home listening to the 1972 Carly Simon hit “You’re So Vain!”

Selling is easy if the initial list price is competitive.  And the only way to price correctly is to detach the emotions from the pricing decision.
