Why should the short sale be an option for modest homes only?

I read an article this morning about how a seller felt they were stuck in their house.  They could not look at a short sale as they were in a luxury home.  In some areas these homes may even be considered “executive homes" as what is luxury varies by locale.

I see short sales on million dollar homes - one priced at 2.5 million over on Melbourne Beach!  

In Brevard County, Florida today there are 27 properties listed for sale priced above $500,000.  Some of these are over "on the beach" while others are in Viera and Suntree.

You will find short sales....

• in gated communities, 
• within 55+ communities, 
• in golf course communities like Baytree Golf Course and Duran Golf Club, 
• in the northern rural areas of Mims - all over Brevard County,
• in all price ranges and condition.  

In Brevard County, a half million dollar priced property is not considered modest, moderate or "run of the mill" housing.
Why should the short sale be an option for modest homes only? It is not!
