Short Sale or Foreclosure - What will the neighbors think?

The economy and real estate market have both caused many homeowners and investors plenty of stress over the past several years.  All those sleepless nights, not recognizing the face in the mirror, putting on a facade for the people met in daily life, all the while struggling with what to do or simply ignoring the situation.

At some point, home owners and investors need to cease the avoidance techniques and come to terms with the facts.  That is...

There are some tough decisions that have to be made...emotion, pride and "what will the neighbors think" need to be placed under the table. 

A short sale may be a consideration if you are facing hardship like loss of job or getting a lower paying job, major illness, a death in the family or some other hardship.  Short sales involve selling your house for less than the mortgage owed and requires negotiations with the lender.  The lender may or may not accept less than the monies owed but it may be a better option than a foreclosure.
